Happy 106th Birthday! |
| |
Sydney North Shore's Muriel Pearce has turned 106 in October 2007 and she celebrated her special day with many family and friends. The party was hosted by son John and daughter-in-law Jean.
Born in Adelaide in 1901, Muriel came to Sydney in the 1920s and at the time, was band leader to what Muriel says was Australia's only all-girl jazz band called Lynette Lynette and Her Six Redheads and played songs like Ain't She Sweet and My Blue Heaven. Muriel played trumpet and saxophone.
''The men thought we should be at home with the babies but we thought otherwise. We had a wonderful time," she said.
Always a glam dresser, Muriel looked stunning at her 106th birthday and prefers to walk with a cane rather than a walking frame.
